College essay critiquing/help?

I believe this teaches us some valuable lessons: 1. Don't commit yourself to something your not willing to give your best at. 2. Trying new things can be a fun experience. It also says that "If you put your mind to it and follow through, you will make it." Great wording for the essay. Not much critique here.
