High Shutter Speed for Sports photography...?
The Canon XT is not designed for sports photography. If you want to take good pictures you will at least need a canon eos 30d. The lens also has a lot to do with it. A cheep lens will not let in much light at all and the pcitures will be dark unless it is very bright outside.
