Cat sared of cat flap?

I have a really really skittish male cat, he doesnt like my recently aquired cat flap. The other cat, female, uses it fine. Iv tried everything I can think of...tried putting him through with a friend on the other side, coaxing him with food, and just leaving him to try it himself. Nothing works! please help!
