What do you think? Answer to the Stanford admission essay prompt "tell us about an idea you consider engaging"

Humans are very cliquish creatures. We started by dividing the world into different countries. Each country only had to look after its own citizens; that way, no one had to worry about humanity as a whole. Within each country, we divided ourselves into different states and social cles; reducing our area of concern to those of similar social standing and location. We have divided ourselves into different religions, cultures, education levels, and income brackets. The rich see the poor as lazy, the poor see the rich as oppressive. Religious groups hate one another and wish each other dead. Countries try to get an edge on each other, and resort to bloody wars to reach their ends. Races persecute each other, cultures try to obliterate each other, and states try to control each other. We live in a world divided. It seems that no one remembers the concept of a single, unified humanity. What if we could find a way to transcend all the social, political, and geographical barriers that divide us? In such a world there would be no war, racism, or persecution. Pain felt by one would be pain felt by all. Humanity has a duty to work towards this utopia. We must see past the world we live in, and perceive ourselves not as a list of different groups, but as human beings.
